Do you have a Guilty Lunch Pleasure?

What are your guilty food pleasures? There are a few people here at the office who will say pizza, and some will say sandwiches, but there’s at least one person here who will say beef tips and rice from the local buffet. Yes, cheap American food that’s reminiscent of the days in college when we’d have lunch that tasted a far sight better than what Lunchlady Doris would make.

The local buffet is where we go to get our fair share of mashed potatoes and gravy. They’re not too terribly proficient at making the Salisbury steak – it tastes like it comes from frozen patties most of the time. But the beef tips, the beef tips are something of a thing of beauty, says our coworker.

This is the place where the ability to braise meat comes into play. Start with the beef stew beef and some spices. Cook so that the meat is browned, and then lower the heat with some water. Add in your own mix for gravy, and there’s some magic that’s made. Add your standard white rice and make sure that there’s good gravy around the tips, and you have it down.

To our coworker, this is one of the best uses for the Empura Gas Ranges that there are in stock. Cooking the beef tips with gas adds a certain different flavor into the mix.
