Deep down, you and I know that it’s not the cooking equipment that makes mediocre food. We’d love to think that, but then we think about the last episode of Cutthroat Kitchen that we saw where one of the chefs was hindered and seemed to make something that the judge really enjoyed. Education, though, is extremely important.
One of the best ways to learn about cooking equipment and what it can do is to start using it to cook with. Learning by doing remains one of the best ways to truly get the education that you need. Thing is, you might not always have the best equipment available at your fingertips.
What happens then? Do you simply learn from the adversity and wait until the best equipment comes into the shop? Or, do you take the bull by the horns and search for a place that can teach you about both the equipment and the food that you’re cooking with it?
Knowing certain tweaks about convection ovens (like you have to cook at 25 degrees lower to get the same results) will help the food cook better and faster (and thereby make it more tasty), but do you know everything about what you’re using?
Sometimes, reading the manual really can help you get just that little more creative and make your meals taste a little bit better.
