Marketing Ideas for the Big Game!

Closeup of American Football on Field

The biggest sports day of the year is only a couple days away. If you're a fine dining establishment - you may not be pushing this as much as Valentine's Day, but this is a huge day for sports bars for both dine in and take out. Maximize your sales by offering your customers options and getting the word out through marketing!

Advertising and PR tips: send a press release to your local news websites and invite a couple foodie bloggers in to sample and write about your offerings. For paid advertising, consider radio ads for a higher budget (on a sports station, naturally) or sponsored Facebook posts for a lower budget, or both! What should you post? Avoid boosting menus as these don't perform well on social media - instead, use a strong graphic or create a short, informative, and fun edited video to maximize views and sales for your promotion. For your own social media, post a couple times per week for the three weeks or so leading up to the game. Sharing sports trivia also helps to brand you as a place to go to watch the big game. In addition, don't forget to include the home team if you happen to be fortunate enough to have a team from the geographic area playing in the game (in addition - expect larger crowds if that's the case). Be wary of using the words "Super Bowl" in your promotions - due to NFL trademarks, the actual term is copyright protected... so err on the side of caution and say "Big Game" in your marketing collateral.

Dine in and take out: if you have a lot of TV screens, chances are good you'll get a nice crowd for the big game. Focus on classic tailgate foods: wings, nachos, and of course, lots of beer. For take out, don't forget about lucrative catering options. Put together a nice take out menu with a package or a la carte options, to make it convenient for those planning on attending private parties to bring along your food to go. Party packs can include a dozen sliders, fifty wings, etc. Make sure to include easy re-heating instructions and ensure that you are getting the word out about ordering in advance to ensure that the deliveries go through in a timely manner and don't bog your kitchen down with last minute orders on the day of the game when they are already busy.
