Today is National Creamsicle Day! When I was young, I would chase the ice cream truck for what seemed like miles (it was only a hundred feet at the most) to get my hands on a good creamsicle. Easy to make, these little darlings have the potential to make anyone’s day. It’s time to thrill your patrons by putting creamsicle surprises on the menu.
In a commercial restaurant setting, you not only have access to walk-in freezers to store your vanilla ice cream, but you most likely have a lead on some fresh fruit and juice from concentrate. Here’s a recipe from Wikihow.com
- 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 2 cups ice
- 1 ½ cups orange soda
- 1 ½ cups 2% milk
- 1 slice orange
- Whipped cream
Blend everything together, and put into popsicle molds. Put the sticks into the molds when they’re about halfway done. When they’ve frozen all the way, take them out and serve to your eager customers.
Here are some other creamsicle recipes from around the web:
- Orange Creamsicles from Oven Love Blog – Here, we have the introduction of honey, orange extract, and frozen orange concentrate into the mix.
- Vegan Orange Creamsicle from The Sweet Life Online – This is a vegan recipe with full-fat coconut milk, agave nectar, and vanilla extract. The pictures with the creamsicles atop orange slices and gourmet ice look especially tasty.
- Homemade Creamsicles from A Beautiful Mess – This one puts in a little more orange zest and adds slightly more whipping cream than some of the others.
It’s no wonder that creamsicles have their own holiday! You’re not just limited to orange, of course. Any juice concentrate will work, and who knows? You might find something that you want to put on your regular menu.
