When did they Start Phasing out Freon?

Freon, also known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), was used as a refrigerant in air-conditioning systems and was widely used until the early 1990s. CFCs began to be phased out in the late 1980s due to their role in depleting the Earth's ozone layer. Other refrigerants, such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), replaced them as they decreased. By 2000, CFCs were no longer used in new air-conditioning systems. Today, HFCs have largely replaced CFCs and HCFCs as the refrigerant of choice in air-conditioning systems.
