An electric combo steam kettle, or a combination of a kettle and a steamer, is a device that can steam foods and heat water for hot beverages such as tea or coffee. Most combo steamers have a capacity of 1.5 to 3 liters. It functions much like a regular kettle, heating water to the desired temperature and pouring it into a teacup, but it also has a steaming function. With the push of a button, the appliance heats a small amount of water and produces steam. These units often have various cooking functions, such as defrosting, reheating, boiling, and sautéing. They are usually made from plastic, stainless steel, or copper. Stainless steel is known for durability and strength, while copper is known for its antibacterial properties, though most copper-made steamers have a layer of copper plating over copper alloy, which is non-toxic and safe for consumption. Plastic is also non-toxic and safe for consumption, but unlike copper and stainless steel, plastic is not very durable and likely won’t last as long as a stainless steel or copper-made product.
